I know Cole Hann used to make all or most of their shoes in Maine, some I think even made by the Rancourt family. I've seen some of the older US-made shoes and they looked very good. Never worn any.

I actually have a pair of USA-made camp mocs with leather soles by Cole-Haan, they're excellent, first bought them in the mid-'80s, luckily I got a second USA-made pair as spares ... the company used to have a flagship shop on Madison, that's where I nabbed the replacements ... first pair was bought at the world's preppiest shop of all time, little boutique in Coral Gables, closed for years now, but used to be stacked to the roof with USA Haspel, Corbin, Hertling, etc. ....

I have a pair of modern Cole Haan tassels Dom, and they have stood up well to regular wear. I prefer them to my plastic Weejuns.

Thanks fellas, I am really looking forward to those shoes. Btw, just take a look into that seller's ebay shop - tons of interesting shoes, all NOS. Found it when I looked out for NOS USA made Sebagos (bu the Cole Haans were looking even better to me)... Even Timberland boat shoes that look great are there. Mostly 80s and 90s stuff I suppose...

It's just the connotations we associate over this side of the pond with Holiday Camps, for us or a certain age and over you will not escape it - however you dress it up, a Red Coat will always be a Red Coat.

Oliver, regarding the date on the McGregor, I think that's probably the model number. Don't agonize over it too much. If it's got the look and you like it, wear and enjoy.

P.S. and in 1949 they started with 'series OA' for Outerwear A (in alphabetical order, suits were numbered with SA etc.) - so late 50s or early 60s is a realistic possibility...
