Agreed. That's a lovely suit, BoO. Is it by Cricketeer?

Not Cricketeer, although I have a couple of great Cricketeer sacks.  This is by Briarwood, not that I have heard of them.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Thanks BoO. It appears absolutely identical in every way to a Cricketeer 3 piece that I had my eye on recently. I wonder if the labels may be related in some way?

Not sure if Cricketeer was just a label or an actual manufacturer.  I suspect it was the former.  If so it is possible the two suits in question were made from the same model.  Here is a photo of the label:
http://homepage.mac.com/haydensdad/GarageSaleImages/GarageSale_1235673552_16430.jpg

Cricketeer sacks have great shoulders, so I hope this one measures up.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Thanks BoO. I guess you may well be right and both suits are the 'same'. If a do manage to snag the Cricketeer I'll be sure to post some pics for comparison. Even the distinctive blend of colours noticible in the label close-up appear identical - from memory at least. Influenced by your lovely suit I'm posting some nice sacks ads from 'The New Yorker' up on the Boom Years thread in a couple of minutes.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

This pair of old "Executive Imperials" turned up in the post from the States today at a bargain price. Made by Mason of Chippewa Falls. Leather has very subtle pebble grain and condition is great - even appear to be on their original soles. A little dusty but a quick wipe and a good polish will sort them out. Probably the heaviest pair of wingtips that I've ever owned.

For those of you who take a 45 inch chest and 19 inch shoulders:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VTG-MOD-INDIE-BROOK … 1|294%3A50

1962-1975 ACWA Union Tag.  Judging by the look of the suit I would say it is on the earlier end of that spectrum.

A suit which would go well with Staceyboy's Wingtips!

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

This Penney's 3-button jacket in a black hopsack turned up from the States today. Half-lined, patch & flap pockets, raised seams and hooked vent.

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/3328/img0193kbu.jpg
It's nice indeed but I was equally intrigued by what I found in the pockets:
A piece of a Greyhound Bus ticket (?) marked Denver
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3852/ticket1a.jpg
and a half a student concert ticket marked "Modern J". Could that possibly be "The Modern Jazz Quartet"?
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/5255/ticket2b.jpg
I would certainly like to think that my jacket attended a campus MJQ gig. Now that's what I call a pedigree. It got me to wonder if anyone else has discovered anything of interest in the pockets of vintage finds. I for one have found a surprising ammount of coins and dollar bills over the years but certainly not sufficient to retire on!

Brilliant finds Staceyboy and 1966.

I had my beady eye on that Sero myself; you won't be disappointed. Mine is the nicest shirt I own, with some unusual stitching details too.

Nice jacket Staceyboy, I have a charcoal suit with the very same label. It didn't come with tickets like yours though... intrigueing.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Not exactly Ivy, but I won this 60s number last night:

I have discovered through trial and error that some of these continental suits actually have pretty natural shoulders.  Others can be quite hefty though.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Just received an old Champion varsity jacket issued for the US Navy, will post pics later.

Found this, didn't win the auction, thought I'd post it here anyway. The seller had an identical black flannel one, missed out on that number as well.

*Sigh* - what a good looking shirt - can't have 'em all I guess...
