unstarched soft point collar shirts

is this specifically an american feature? i recently found some old van heusens and what i noticed is that they didn't take colar stays unlike most of my hk and european rtw shirts. does VH still make this type of shirt?

Last VH's I bought were in the early '90s. They were cheap crap then, doubt if they're any better today. Another fine old American brand gone down the tubes!

Re: unstarched soft point collar shirts

I've never used Brooks MTM - Horace & Cooly have, I believe.
Beyond Brooks anyone could make one up for you, or you could just buy regular shirts & take out the collar stays (even if they are sewn in inside the collar it's an easy job). Every stylist needs a Stanley Knife!

The Arrow shirts I saw yesterday were just low end department store items. Made in China no doubt. I'm sure they must do better stuff than that if you look at their full range online. Equally I bet Van Heusen must have some kind of high end (in their terms) version of what they do.

I used to just buy attractive shirts from wherever (M&S even!) and monkey with the collars. Then when I could get imported Hathaways & better quality Arrow shirts I stopped & left the rest behind... And then I found J. Simons & my wanderings in the wilderness were over!

Jobs for Stanley:

Removing the labels on Paraboots, Baracutas, Bass Bucks, slicing out collar stays...

Re: unstarched soft point collar shirts

Just picked up a point collar Brooks in white. Double cuffs too, which I've been missing (I have a soft spot for silk knots). Should be about right for suits.

Difficult to find the 'right' point collar I think.

Moose, how long is that collar pin? I have one that is 2" I think and my efforts always look worse than that (maybe I just need a better shirt).

Fiddly to measure, but it's a bit over 2 1/2".

Thanks Moose, I guess the extra half inch matters. Mine just always seems so pinched, while yours is much more relaxed and clean.
