White tie

In the modern era there's the occasional black tie affair (that with my social life I'm unlikely to attend) but how likely is it that one is required to wear white tie / formal dress?  Assuming one does not receive the nobel prize or become a concert pianist.

I happen to feel that white tie and tails looks great but if there's nowhere to wear it anymore, then why get the outfit?   In the event of a black tie affair is it acceptable to wear white tie?

Re: White tie

There are many white-tie events, which are rather tragic in their inelegance what with attached wing collar shirts, rented shoes, and the vest showing more than its accepted inches below the jacket.

One tends to find more white-tie events in Europe, especially the Scandinavian Kingdoms.

Re: White tie

Who would want to wear white tie in this day and age. The tuxedo, excuse me black tie, is about a fancy as it should get. I don't mind the detachable wing collar shirt with the tuxedo.

Re: White tie

It's far better looking than black tie in my opinion.

Raphael is in the process of making a bespoke morning suit for a gentleman who is scheduled to have tea with the Queen.  I will be posting pictures.  This has to be seen to be believed.
