Canvas deck shoes

A nice alternative to the Sperry Topsider or the Timbaland boatshoes...

WOW, this is probably the cheapest sweatshop gear!

Vans, these are all over the place among the kids, now, so I wouldn't touch them:

I know, there's lots of similar stuff, of course, you can get these things really cheap! I don't need a label on some simple canvas shoes, I rather save my money for nice welted shoes, Clarks etc.....

Re: Canvas deck shoes

I`ve been thinking of thinking, for some time,  of getting some navy Van Authentics  and cutting off the label.

Re: Canvas deck shoes

I remember navy blue deck shoes playing a role in the mod look back in the early '80s.. I recently bought a pair of slip-ons from the discount store on Strutton Ground. Cost me all of £6, so well worth a punt.

Re: Canvas deck shoes

Than you for the links, Adam! and The Woolster!!

The Sperry "75th Anniversary" shoe look to have a darker upper colour than the current Stripers. It looks like a parchment colour. I suppose it`s because they replicate the original shoe of the 1930`s. Lovely clean lines, and a nice shoe, though... A timely link!

Adam, thank you very much for the links to the Keds; they look very interesting. I`m intrigued, now... (definitely a good thing) smile

Re: Canvas deck shoes

Adam , i really apppreciate you sharing your knowledge. It`s great to have see you posting here, again...

Interesting to read the line "the Keds anchor (deck shoe) is back", too.

I, still, prefer the, more subtle, `white` Stripers but , thanks to your link, i`m really drawn to the navy Keds anchors.

I prefer the more elegant, subtler, tapered toe of these anchors over the bulkier and more `in your face` Van authentics in  navy.

Might the navy Keds anchors be the blue (stripeless) deck shoes Mcqueen wore in  Thomas Crown Affair ??

Re: Canvas deck shoes

Those Windjammers suffer from the bulbous toe box which also afflicts the Sperry anniversary shoes for the US and indeed Van's Authentics and Eras these days. Maddening that they get the shape of these so wrong as they would have had to have gone out of their way to remodel something to be so ugly when the original mould was so perfect.

The Sperry re-editions for Japan (think they call it the Authentic Oxford) look pretty faultless and have the correct profile and proportions. The modern Sperry Striper is serviceable but hideous in its detailing.

For those who wish to spend a small fortune I found these:

http://www.betsuro.com/category-alllegwear/category-legwear-footwear/wakouwadeckshoesoffwhitecanvas.html

There is a version in the same colourway as manufactured by Sperry and issued to the US Navy in WWII:

http://segui-riveted.blogspot.com/2010/03/ww2-us-navy-canvas-deck-shoes.html

The Wakouwa USN replica here:

The Sperry Authentics for Japan are available on Rakuten for UK at not unreasonable prices if anyone's interested.

Re: Canvas deck shoes

Had a pair of those Palladiums around 1990, and funnily enough the missus tried a pair of the boots on yesterday.

Just found this link for Sperry Top-Sider Cloud CVO's - shame i'm not in the US!!!
