Some Things May Not Need "Improvement"

There is a thread on the venerable Baracuda with a plastic zipper, of all things, and a post about one with an external label. It brings to mind the thought that there are some things that really shouldn't be "improved".

On your next trip through the Louvre, you might not think that the Mona Lisa with a 21st century hair do was an "improvement".

The same might be said for some of the items that appear here with regularity, such as:
The Baracuda
LLB hunting boots
LLB chamois shirts
LLB navy fisherman's sweaters with white flecks (gone)
BB khaki bucket hats (gone)
BB "gotta iron" OCBD
Weejuns
Plain grey sweat shirts
Sack 3/2 jackets ( some female designer probably couldn't understand why the top button wasn't functional, and decided to move the gorge up so that that the top button was functional)
Burberry unlined traditional top coat (gone)
Barbour; Beaufort, and Bedale
Dinner jacket with a plain shawl collar, and a tie it yourself bow tie (long ties with dinner jackets seem to rank right up there with grand theft auto).

etc.

Some alterations may not be for the better ( re-plastic zipper ) although in some cases a different take on an idea that still works will work out fine too. e.g. lacoste have a lot of variations of the old Harrington, most of them fit perfectly within the original idea of that look..... IMO.

Didn't Barbour bastardize all their jackets, incl. Border, Beaufort, etc?  I thought they made a host of changes a few years back???

Seem to recall that U.S. crocodile logoed knit shirts in the last quarter of the 20th century had Izod labels, not Lacoste, under a license from Chemise Lacoste of France. Possibly mistaken. The resurgence has been in the original French made Lacoste, or are they making them in Peru now? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacoste

Izod & Gant history under Crystal brands. Dated, as it terminates in 1994.

^While there you can read of the demise of Duck Head under Delta Woodside, and others. It's like spending an afternoon poking around Home Depot or Lowes.

Unfortunately, Bass WeeJuns have been underwater for 20? years.
