I think so... Just my opinion.  What do you think?

Re: Covert Coat TRAD?

OK - I'll say it... But what is Trad?

If Trad is Classic Traditional American then I'll need a ruling from one who knows from the US - Were they worn much?

To me the Covert is classic English country style - Often worn in the City by a certain group to show their distain for the City whilst still making pots of cash there to carry home to the Shires. Not remotely Ivy - But I could be wrong.

The coat is now thoroughly debased in my opinion. The velvet collared version especially. The plain collar still hangs on, but as 'something that means something' it's on its last legs.

If anything the velvet collared Covert is now pure Wide-Boy & has been for years.

(My 'WestEnders' wore the plain collar, btw.)

Thoughts?

Re: Covert Coat TRAD?

Chums,

Dont recall many true covert coats in the ol "CBS Curriculum",, but TChauncey does not claim to be a true student of the curriculum.

I do seem to recollect herringbone overcoats with velvet -- chesterfield? --collars.  Heavier than covert cloth, tho certainly less than 40oz with 20oz lining ; )_.  Perchance us yanks felt compeled to play with the ol Anglo look a bit, eh?   Seems these coats are a bit formal in the US but country in the UK.

Cheerio.

Wide Boy?  Wow!  You can be cruel, Jim.

I like the idea of staying away from any definition of Trad.  It's a catchy word and that's about it.  It sounds better in conversation than the full on, "Traditional."  As in, "Check out the blonde at the bar. She's beautiful"  "You mean the one in the sweatshirt?"  "No, not her. The Trad one in the Chanel suit."  Not a good example but I'm in a hurry.

Re: Covert Coat TRAD?

I have one just like it.  Bought it from Brooks 10 years ago. Wool is Loro Piana.  Ticket pocket, etc.  Polo did a Chesterfield in a grey herringbone with railroad stiching.  Didn't do anything for me and apparently lots of others since it was on the sale rack.
