Re: Name the best clothing books

I don't much admire Evelyn Waugh; sour-faced git indeed. He offended Rosa Lewis of the old Cavendish Hotel by basing the character of Lottie Crump and Shepheard's Hotel in 'Vile Bodies' on her and the Cavendish. She got her revenge when he had the cheek to go into the Cavendish and she told him (customarily mixing up his name), to "Get your arse out of my chair, Lulu Waters-Waugh!" But he was famed for his cheerful suits.

Re: Name the best clothing books

Just wondering if someone can recommend some books about "old money" and "new money" families?

A year or two ago I remember someone posting a book that made a comparison between the shopping habits of old money and new money families.  In example, an old money family would have mismatched furniture because it will have been accumulated over generations, while a new money family will have matching furniture because the family will have bought all the furniture in one swoop.  Another comparison was clothing:  bespoke suits and shoes will be "hand me downs," while "nouveau riche" will buy brand new clothes for their kids, etc., etc.  Does this ring any bells?
