Can I be the maggot in the cheese and say I'm indifferent to Sanders?  I mean, I'll wear 'em into the ground but they give me no sense of excitement, of...

First choice is always the (non-crepe) Garrett.

the shoes that steve mcqueen wore in that picture was the original playboys made by hutton. I had the same shoes back in 1967 and they cost me 22.50 american. those were the days and now there gone.

Weejun : those new Sanders you bought from John Rushton - is that not the same boot John Simons was selling with the narrower toe shape but in a nicer paler brown - tobacco/cola? How much? £150? Nice.

Re: Quality of Crepes

When did they start doing their high top/ chukka boot versions?

I'd also like to know when all the copies by other brands started... Is the GC rep still around?

Re: Quality of Crepes

The bottom pair in the drawing are almost certainly chukkas judging from the two eyelet design which differs from the main picture.

I'm not sure if they licensed their patent method or the patent got broken. My Trickers 1960s boots that came unstuck allowed me to see how they were made (as described by mr Cox on here) - there's a thin crepe welt sewn onto the edge of that rolled leather welt, that drapes around the edges of the shoe soles and heel and onto that the crepe foxing is fixed by chemical bonding - rubber cement for example or simply beating with a soft hammer which creates friction heat that bonds the two parts together. At least until they come apart 40 years later and need the oven treatment.

I still haven't dared wear them since I fixed them, although even the gaping split soles have 'healed' after dripping rubber cement into the cracks.
