Re: Quality of Crepes

^ They might be Eton Clubmans, quite popular in the UK back then, especially with the teds.

Someone told me about Etons barely a week ago, I'd never heard of them before. Great stuff guys.

Re: Quality of Crepes

I've been intrigued by the playboy boots since I first saw them discussed here.  I found a pair by RJ Colt in a little shop on West 8th Street on sale for 40 bucks.

They are cool, and seem to attract attention.  My sister thought they were the bee's knees, and yesterday, in a store, I was hailed by two older Latino guys who were repairng the escalator:  "Cool playboys, man!"

I was surprised and felt like a pretty slick dude for the rest of the afternoon.

Re: Quality of Crepes

I bought the Brooks desert boots with crepe sole.  They were pretty cheap, on clearance, and they're a remarkable shoo.  I think less than $150, marked down from $400+.   An English make.

Re: Quality of Crepes

I've had some variation of the Playboy/Eton for a long time in various guises. I tend not to wear them very often as I think the chukka type only really goes with a slender and short trouser like a pair of white Levi's, which are flattering only on the young.

The shoe (as opposed to the boot) would be more versatile for me. John Simons used to do a lovely two-eyelet Playboy shoe in neutral nubuck with an un-dyed sole: are these still about any more?

Re: Quality of Crepes

FWIW I once saw Paul gorman trying on a 3-piece tweed suit in John Simons. Unfortunately, I didn't hang around long enough to find out whether he bought it or not.

^ Watching the Scandinavians eh? And rightly so.

Don't be tricked by that last picture J... looks to me like someone crudely cut some sole off in Photoshop.
