I love it when he bangs on about Northern Soul too...
I've worn saddle shoes since the mid 90s, but always a black on oxblood colorway so the color contrast is minimal. The high contrast saddle shoe I've always thought of as a gal's shoe, but I think it can be worn in the same way as a spectator, perhaps with a seersucker suit while sipping mint juleps
Jack Nicholson: possibly one of the most tiresome actors in the entire history of Hollywood: made millions out of being spoiled, self-indulgent, misogynistic and charlied up - oh, and playing the part of Jack Nicholson. And don't get me started on De Niro and his finger-wagging.
I think Nicholson has admitted as much. Well maybe not all of your critique. There is a Playboy interview where he admits to not acting so much as figuring out how much of "Jack" the director wants the character to be.
I have a pair of Cole Haan saddle shoes, purchased in the mid-1990s and still going strong. The burgundy/brown saddles are extremely versatile, and look great with khakis, particularly lighter tones. I love wearing them--there is something very balanced, stable, and calming about the look. They are similar in color to the AE Shelton, but with grain, so more casual.

When I bought them, I was not aware that saddle shoes (shoos) were treated with disdain in some corners. Which, strangely, makes wearing them that much more enjoyable.
I had them resoled many moons ago in rubber when I didn't know any better. That mistake will not occur again.
I have to admit to loving saddle shoes , i have 2 pairs ... one navy/white and a pair of old Church's brown/white . i wear them both dressed with brown 50's cut 3 button suit or down with Levi's and a vintage sweatshirt ... a most versatile shoe indeed
