I came across my copy of this particular LP earlier today, I haven't played it in years so it was nice to give it a spin again.
I remember GMF saying he was completely baffled when asked to recreate his block party sets by Harmless in an interview.
When this LP was released he thought that this stuff was 'played out'. Thank god he recorded it.

An epiphanic moment...  Joe Morello's playing on Fast Life by the Quartet is astounding.  One of those moments where, no matter how much you've devoted to your craft, no matter how much you feel or understand what you're doing and you what want to achieve, or what you think you're capable of achieving, no matter how cocky you may get... a master comes along and shows you how much is possible.  It's intangible.  Your summing up of your own abilities in light of the performance is both crushing and liberating.
