^ Why thank you Moose for starting this thread. Some TK Maxx stores can be a bit gubbier, the city centre ones especially due to large foot fall. But those out of towners are higher class!!

I mentioned on another thread a nice pair of John White beefrolls in black a few weeks ago, make a nice change form my weejuns, in fact I think I prefer the John White as seem to come higher up my instep (have I just commited blasphemy???)

A nice Daks Jacket in olive tweed

Various Tommy Hillfiger "custom fit" 80s two-ply cotton shirts. These really are a well made shirt and come in some great stripes if you can find them in there. The "custom fit" is a closer fit.

Nice navy lambswool shawl neck cardi by Farah, which I got on now.

Most recently a nice pair of cotton chinos by Hiltl who make quite a lot of old man style trousers, but these have a really nice slim silhouette (not skinny just slim) and are really well made. £14.99 bargain!

Oh and I bought a nice pair of Ralph Lauren pyjamas for these cold nights, which actually are really well made........much better quality than the Derek Rose ones also in there. The thing is with some brands like Ralph Lauren they make a lot of lower quality tat for their own clearence oprerations in various outlet villages. But every now and then some of the better quality stuff turns up among the average tat.

Think you hit the nail on the head there Moose, talking about the gems amongst the dross. Must confess that I spend far too much time in the local TK Maxx as it's only about 10 minutes walk away from where I work and it's on my route back from the coffee shop. Had some pretty nice stuff in the past year or so. This new store is spread over 4 floors. The usual gripe seems to apply with the men's clothing as to sizing, the top end items being either tiny of XXL. Some beautiful Ballantyne cashmere V necks at £50 a pop sadly fell into this category. Been good recently for Italian suede Chukkas too. Not top quality but very presentable at £30 a pair. Most recent purchase were of a Bullitt style in chocolate brown with black crepe soles. I even managed to pick up a pair of dead stock Baracuta G9's in the sale at £10 each! One was in Loden green the other in a beautiful dark brown "Brisbane Moss" cord with quilted tartan lining. Both were 'small' and I eventually Ebayed one to Italy and the other Japan. The interesting thing was that they were decked out in limited edition "60th Anniversary 1943-2003" hangtags. This is only curious as the Sinatra/Elvis/McQueen "70th Anniversary Icons of Cool" came out only 4 years later in 2007! The labels on that version staing "1937-2007". What was happening between 1937 and 1943 with Baracuta I don't know. Maybe that should be a thread in itself! Around the time I bought the G9's I also hesitated over another sized XL in a salt & pepper tweed at £45. Returned later that day, and yes, you've guessed it - gone.

Sounds nice. The working buttons would ruin it for me with my wee short arms. You could be excused for turning back the sleeves if they were too long.

I'd love a plain navy blazer in seersucker, with white buttons.

I've got a few of the Brisbane moss Baracuta's. Had one in a chocolate brown jumbo cord that was sadly nicked from a mate's party.. Suspect it was an italian who nicked it as it goes. Thankfully still got the needlepoint versions in beige and oxblood as well as a bright red jumbo cord. I also have one of the tweed versions, in a sort of orangey colour, with a leather collar. That and the red cord will be winging their way onto Japanese ebay I think, I don't need/want them.

As for my local TK Spax, it's pants as is the one in Hatfield. Not had a dickybird out of either of them (yet). My old one when I lived in North London was fantastic on the other hand, picked loads of stuff up there. Keep meaning to go there and have a look, but it's a right old schlep. I should go to the one in Brent Cross though I suppose, that's not so far from work.
