Re: Blogsville

As you guys can probably guess, I'm a sucker for pics of vintage gents. These guys are too:

I can't believe I forgot JP's blog: http://theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com/ (I've linked to it enough times).

Moose, those vintage ads are great-- do you mind if I use a couple on the blog?  Giving you full credit of course.

Best,

Such vim & spunk.

ah, that blog (and presumably The Style Councillor on here?) appears to be old Eton Rifle from Modculture...

the bizarre use of 'plant pot' as an insult and talk about Sheffield United gives it away...

^ I bet it's him as well.
I like how he rants away on adidas, he seems to have a tentacle in that whole "casual" culture.

Re: Blogsville

while good rants can be funny (see some of Mik's on MC), this guy really has some 'issues', seems to think he's a lone soldier fighting everything wrong with the world, doesn't seem to realise that most of us on here, MC, etc, all think exactly the same about stupid fashion items, ugly trainers (hardly a surprising new development that, is it? been plenty of hideous designs since the late 80s, and hideous colour schemes even before that), etc, we just don't let it bother us.
same as in other fields - my main interest is music - i don't worry about dreadful music (whether it's being made today or was made 50 years ago), i just ignore it and only think about the good stuff, confident that i've got good taste and good records.
his posts about celebs are another example - i haven't got a clue who any of them are (one might have been Lily Allen?), they simply don't enter my vision at all let alone bug me.

anyway, better let the thread get back to the Ivy. sorry for the interruption!

Re: Blogsville

Gotta say - I honestly don't know for sure.

TSC, Eton Rifle, some have even wondered about him being M'Lord Dunsby (sp?) having a wind-up.

TSC posted here until he pissed off so many people that he really had to go. I've opened the door for his return a few times if he just takes it easy with other people. He's still welcome to rip into people here, but he needs to do it in a much more forum friendly way. His call.

He was a sparky & active poster and added a nice dash of Tabasco to our chats. All he needed to be perfect was to tone it down just a tad.

I hope to see him back one day adding more than he tries to tear down over here. But only because I don't believe it's possible to tear us down, so why even try? Our stuff is just what it is. No made-up stuff like the rest.

At least he seems to really care about stuff.

??????

Re: Blogsville

i actually quite enjoyed TSC's posts on here and he certainly could have been a very interesting contributor, but the Eton Rifle posts on MC and a lot of that blog are just tiresome and predictable. presume it's the same guy though, too many coincidences, can't be *that* many people out there, surely?

Re: Blogsville

I've actually dropped him a line this morning. Who's who doesn't really matter, but if he wants to come back here then he's welcome. A new name, a new start.

He's very welcome to question us. All he needs to do is to use a " wink " after he tells us to f*** off.

'Netiquette' I think it's called. BS, but then what isn't? wink

Don't be sorry, mate ! You've pretty much articulated my thoughts on this one, in fact you did it better than I did i.e. I've absolutely nothing against older subculturalists, it's the ignorance of such querulous people I can't stand....

I have to admit TSC had some interesting ideas on modern classic clobber and I presume you're right about 'him' not being TSC but this Eton Rifle bloke although I think I've never read any of the latter's posts. I'm very selective if I check MC forum these days, not that it matters a whole lot but anyway......

^ Haha.

So browsing the LIFE archives can be a paid gig? I'm starting to understand why BoO took it.

No payment. That gig is just for... whatever. BoO is actually doing very good work there. My POV? He should blog alone. He's waaay better than Chensvold. Who isn't?

Ahhhhh - “Ivy Style”!

Yes, just like “Ask Andy About Trad” I trolled that place into being too…

The pics are from Zach - A cool cat who was with us on FNB’s “Talk Ivy” forum before Christian M. Chensvold banned him from posting there. Shame, that. We dig him.

I too like the pics.

And I have to say that the cash-in “Ivy Style” blog is always of interest. I really do hope that Chensvold can find some success in ripping of the ideas and the vibe of the “Talk Ivy” site.

… Because we ALL know what he’s up to, the little iParasite!

Best -

I'm more bothered by the posts on 1920s college songs. Who's listening to that neutered stuff?

Ha ha, I knew I wouldn't have to wait long for a reply on that one. Well said, RS, well said.

Perhaps it should be read as a clueless attempt at co-opting something?

Best.

Yes - ACL eventually took down the comment & dropped me a line regarding it asking not to be involved. I've asked him if he wants to interview me & he's currently having a think. I'll report back.

Chensvold & ACL seem to be good iFriends these days. It's nice to be in the start of a new relationship isn't it? These bloggers stick together, eh?

The unknown is did Chensvold lean on A Continuous Lean? Chensvold is getting very well known for doing this around the Net these days. Proof on file. A touch of the ol' AKs? I know not. But I do know that bullies are always to be faced down.

J.

Edit: From the 'About' section on ACL:

"*A note on comments. Feel free to comment and disagree with me. If you want to say nice things, that is cool too. There is no comment moderation on ACL, so that is one less thing you have to worry about..."

I like ACL's blog a lot and Michael Williams too - He helped a lot in getting my NYC FT gig. So what happened here? My comment was up for two days before it suddenly got taken down. Also I've previously posted 'The Truth About Trad' stuff on ACL & it's been left up. Is it just because I've now moved onto "The Truth About Ivy Style" that we have a problem? What a cyber-soap opera!
