I wear Beef Roll. I have flat straps but don't wear them much anymore. I don't do tassels.
The amount of footwear I have is downright effeminate but I don't own any loafers as I think they're a bit - effeminate.
Am I making any sense?

For sure. I have pretty much convinced myself that the beef roll makes them less girly. A double sole helps as well. I never had a problem with the flat strap until wearing them sockless with shorts one afternoon. My wife informed I looked like I was going to scope out all the hot grade school boys, and that all I was missing was a gold chain. They haven't been the same for me since.
If anyone could point me in the direction of a grained dark brown leather beefroll with a somewhat higher vamp I'd be all ears.
Yeah, a beef roll and double sole makes them look chunkier and better on a bigger guy (such as my own manly physique).
l normally wear a non-beef roll, but beef roll ones look pretty good too. l don't wear loafers very much these days, maybe 3 times a year.
tasseled kilties are best
I wear beef and non beef, for anyone who might be the slightest bit interested? Which I guess you will Baxta as you're asking the question.
Find yourself a good old fashioned cobbler Baxta. He will be able to build the sole up for you if you thinks it's a touch flimsy.
That is not a bad idea. I have a pair of fringe and buckle which could do with being a tad thicker soled.
Thanks for that. I usually send my shoes to Peters Shoes for soles and heels cos they do a really good job and only charge £40 per pair. I can't get half soles locally for that. I will call them and ask if they will do it.
I've got beef roll and strap. Strap is certainly sleeker; whether that translates to effeminate is up for grabs.
A beefroll loafer would look dumb with a pair of gabs, I think. And a slender flat strap shoe would be a disaster paired with rumpled chinos or jeans.
Tassels and kilties, however, are just plain goofy, in my opinion. Way too fussy.
(Plus in the Northeastern US the tassel loafer often signifies jerk and/or attorney.)
Its when you have a pair of low vamp, pointy toe loafers under a pair of wider legged or more casual pants. Pretty much any Alden aberdeen lasted loafer falls into this category.

Weejuns (oxblood, brown, black)
Sebago Beefrolls (brown, black)
Florsheim Beefrolls (black)
Florsheim plain/Venetian (?) loafers (brown scotch grain)
Tassel Weejuns
...
thought about both the Alden Tassel loafers and penny loafers in buckskin and shell cordovan, but I'm so broke, they'll have to wait...
HBH
I have the weejuns in cognac...lush. Florsheim in black with BR and fringed and tassled (apron?) in burgundy. I have a pair of fringed and buckle which are without BR which I think is the norm for that style. Aldens are something I too aspire to
