Re: Stanley Blacker at Cecil Gee

When I watch those old Bond movies I tend to get bored after a while. Once I'm over the glamour and some of the clothes I start to notice that the story is weak and they go on too long.

One I really like from the early 60's (62 I believe) is a film called The Boys: Robert Morley, Richard Todd, Dudley Sutton even Jess Conrad. Good story, good locations and some good clothes, a real snapshot of the time.

What about cheesy swinging 60's films, Spencer Davies Group  in "The Ghost Goes Gear" anyone?

I'm sorry but there are just too many 'mods' on here waffling on about stuff they no nothing about. Young people note - if you think that that Stanley Blacker jacket is all wrong and is badly cut then you are on the wrong website - take your crappy 'Swinging' films to Modculture where the rest of the assorted unwashed can belch their worthless opinions over them. The jacket featured in that ad is just about as definitively Ivy League as you can get. It's what the whole look is about, the spine of an aesthetic. If you don't dig it then you don't get it. Go and get some Made in China number from a high street retailer and leave the handful of us who do get it to wallow in our understanding of the hippest look ever.

No, GG is right, there's lovely, lovely Ivy and then there's something nebulous and slightly unsatisfying called 'mod'.  And yet...  I'm sure plenty of sussed 'mods' would have happily worn that jacket.  Then, the idea of a sack is that it fails to promote the male torso in a sexual way, classic Ivy style being non-threatening.  Staceyboy knows his onions and invariably brings us excellent images.  I'd have several teeth pulled to own that jacket.  I'd simply prefer horn buttons, similiar to those on a Rodex I once owned.

I keep going back to that ad.  It really belongs with 'The Boom Years'.

I should try taking Kingstonian's advice over the grammar and spelling.  Your postings are too often incoherent, and the message thus lost in the fog.
