Those look nice Adam, but I'd prefer the open lacing of a Derby type shoe.

I am more of a saddle buck man myself.
Overall I'd say vintage is the way to go. These things were made in vast quantities in the boom years and patience should be rewarded if you're willing to wait for a nice pair on the online auction sites.
I'm still wearing a pair of Walkovers from Simons which must have been bought in about '86 or '87.
^ Those look fantastic.
Agreed on the Paul Stuart verdict. Cole Haan is utter crap nowadays but the old made in USA ones were proper though (ask mr Pony).
All good stuff - A real spectrum.
I don't know Adam!'s budget so it's very good that we've got such a range.
- We present the info, Adam! gets to decide.
... Nice forum, this...
Best!
I recently got the Mark McNairy white Bucks - very nice indeed. Best I have seen in a long time.
I remain dubious about Cole Haan. They remind me too much of nurse's shoes: too artificial-looking, unlike Dexter dirty: my favoured option every time. I was - am - disappointed. I wanted a pair because they seem to me to be 'classic Americana'. But, like so much of that stuff for me, it's fallen by the wayside. Saddle bucks are now a firm favourite after dirty. Nordstrom, made in Brazil. Just do what Russell Street does and team them with dark denim, or go the whole hog and wear them with khaki shorts and maybe a wool and alpaca cardigan up top for that truly 'alien' look.
Maybe they remind me too much of whitebread Fred AKA Pat Boone.
I've been considering Sanders dirty's atm, but i'm not sure about the shape - quite English to my (fairly untrained) eyes...
And the new Walk Overs...

The new Walk Over look to be a very mixed bunch, don't they? Why not hang on until the new JS opens and ask advice there? Alternatively, Russell, Gibson Gardens, NSB and The Weejun all know their onions on this subject.
Found my second last pair of tan WalkOvers from JS in the cellar last week. I think they were being kept with the idea of getting them re-soled in mind. They were covered in a deep layer of what I can only describe as light grey mould, which thankfully brushed off quite easily. I've steam-cleaned them and left them to dry on a windowsill in what remains of the September sunshine. Hopefully the mildew stench will have receded in a few days. Then it will be off to the menders for some new soles.
You're a lucky man, NSB - in more ways than one. Tan every time I should say. For me, the white shoe is no longer an option. If any American poster, however, can find me a pair of US 8.5 D plain white low top what I said above they can make money over here. They would absolutely have to be made in the USA.
