Cary Grant: A Celebration of Style is selling briskly and going into its second printing, quite a feat for a book of this type. So a heartfelt thanks is in order to FNB, all of you supportive members, and all of you who placed positive reviews on amazon. Cheers, RT
What a great book this has been to look through (no time yet for reading). It reminds me strongly of that collection of memories about Fred Astaire, another essential for the bookshelf.
I finally placed an order. For two of them. Also Ian Kelly's book on Brummell too. I'll let you know what I think. Looking forward to it.
The close ups of the NxNW suit (or "suits" I suppose) in Rich's book have a pattern to them that I didn't notice on the screen. Interesting photos and discussion. Really enjoying this book.
The thing about Grant perfecting the gesture of placing his hand in his pocket, and how he'd work on having his jacket fitted for that particular gesture is amazing stuff.
Interestingly enough, Art Cooper died right after he was fired from GQ.

Vaclav has a poll regarding Cary Grant:

Would Cary Grant pay for a pagliacci shirt?
Gents:
I'm here, a bit behind the curve but I'm here.
I honestly don't know. But he sure did get around. The other day I heard a wonderful story about him stopping in a Newport Beach menswear store (Gary's, I think, or Robert Talbott) to browse. The sales woman at the time, who was was said to be unruffable, saw him from behind and as was the custom in those days asked if he would like a cup of coffee. He turned around and said in his inimitable accent, "I'd love some." When she saw that it was the man himself, she very nearly fainted dead away.
I can say this, if there was some quality menswear brand or item on the scene, he either knew about it or owned it.
