I own a pair of Clarks Desert Boots, contemporary substandard Made in Vietnam numbers natch, but made from a rather nice rich brown leather. My problem is I find them rather unwearable. Am I alone in finding leather dessies strange and unnatural? All tips on how to wear them welcome. I suspect they are rather naff. Am I right?

Eventually I took a magic sponge drenched in isopropyl alcohol take the top layer off so they basically ended up being nubuck. Then I oiled them. They look all right now, like, well, an oiled nubuck pair but I still don't wear them much. So yeah, I know what you mean.
They don't wear well in leather the just seem to go out of shape.
An odd cousin to the perfection of the suede classic. The leather on mine came away from the sole and let water in in a shower, went out of shape and went in the bin.

Yes Chris H they are the buggers I've got. Aren't they horrible? Why did I buy them? Clarks I guess. I bet Italians would combine them well but I can't. I love the way Clarks splash the whole heritage bit on the box - you know 'In Street, Somerset since 1250' or some such nonsense and then get the bloody things made in the Far East. The universal negativity here, which I applaud of course, has convinced me to keep them back for the inevitable interior decorating jobs to come in Spring 2010. I shall enjoy watching them slowly become submerged in eggshell, and like the idea of decorating in Clark's Desert Boots.
