I'd say so.

Hip looking WnW jacket with some screwy sizing that needs to be verified:

There's a wealth of really nice '50s tweeds on eBay right now that are worth searching for; lots of 40s and 42s.
Oliver - You want 4 pockets!
So, what does the Ivy League vest look like? This vest has 6, not 5 buttons and the bottom button is left undone, the vest should be long enough to cover your belt, it has 4, not 2 pockets, and one of the most important things to remember is that when you are wearing your vest with a blazer of sport coat you are not to remove the jacket in public.
From my post about waistcoats w/ great pics from Billax, Ensiferous, and Roycru. http://oxfordclothbuttondown.com/2013/10/investigating-vests/
I have a great looking tan wool vest that I am hoping to break out this fall.
Thanks ox and great blog post!
All of my reversible vests (I have two McGregors and an unlabeled tartan) are only 2 pockets but I think I'm gonna go for this one, price notwithstanding. I really dig it a lot and you've convinced me!
Too bad these are size Large - http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-2-Two-Mens-Wool-Vests-1950s-1960s-Large-Green-Blue-Plaid-Red-/221520760514?pt=Vintage_Men_s_Clothing&hash=item3393aa8ec2
What's your take on darted vests, ox?
Btw, those photos from Deerfield 1961 are exactly what inspired the look for me too!
Ox is basically right. The only thing is that all this goes also for continental vintage vests. They traditionally had at least 3 pockets, most of the time 4 and this not only for hunting. Brooks Brothers no 1 suits always have 4 pockets on the vest...
Btw to my understanding there have always been darts on Ivy League vests as well as no darts...
And a dart cannot "break" the canvas. And... You want it to break in anyway, it breaks through wearing it... That is the point with canvassing. It gives shape but then it breaks and gets softer, so you gain comfort...

Leer, I think you misunderstood man... aesthetically it "breaks" up the symmetry; I didn't mean to use the terms canvas literally as in canvassing. I was speaking entirely on a superficial level about "the look".
Ah, I am with you on that.. I don't mind them though. But at the end of the day...

Oh my god, you're right, that looks terrible! I don't even think it's been altered, I think that's just the worst pattern matching in history.
Oliver - I think almost every vest I have seen has darts. I also added something for you on the Shetland thread. Hope it helps.
J.Crew often has these types of vests. Here is one on sale: https://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRD~12941/12941.jsp?N=21+16+10012&Nbrd=J&Nloc=en_US&Nrpp=48&Npge=1&Nsrt=3&isSaleItem=true&color_name=KHAKI%20BLACK&isFromSale=true&isNewSearch=true&hash=row1
Ox - thanks on both counts, man!
I'm still really set on a light grey shaggy dog but I think I might just wait 2 months until I'm in Tokyo.
As for the darted vests, I 've seen both. My early '60s BB suit vests are darted but my standalone vests like the one in the recent photo with the green tweed sack are undarted. They also typically only feature 2 pockets; maybe it's a more casual thing to be worn with separates rather than a suit? I usually only see that on the reversibles which still strike me as pretty "ivy" - they certainly leaned heavily on the collegiate look in most of the mid century advertising I've seen. They were probably seen as a more youthful and possibly budget or second-rate alternative to what was being sold by the likes of Brooks, Chipp, etc.

Anyone looking for a 60s seersucker sack in about 39-40 long? Spotted one online - would have nabbed it but I'm already sorted. Drop me a message if so...
Four pockets on one side, two on the other...

This 6 button Brooksflannel (14,5) is really tempting but I'm trying save some money:

^ I just placed a bid and then realized it's a 32 sleeve, so I'm hoping someone else takes it now.
Haha, that's what you get when you're being too fast
Still, the label says regular, maybe the seller just put "32" in the description without measuring because it doesn't seem like he/she has made any other measurments, or idk.
