Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I didn't even know such things existed. Personally I have found Makers eoe far harder to find than pp or Oc (apologies to any novices for all the acronyms). I have only ever owned one, which soon became unwearable due to exploding collar.

some sort of banal legitimacy

The leather trim does make it trickier - must be the same shop though, surely. All the details the same.

That's funny.  I've often pondered that jacket he's wearing and thought "What the hell is it?"

Nobody does notice that. My Burberrys Trench is a women's too...

Who do you see? Who do you watch? Whose your leader? Which is your flock?

Not THAT easily, that's why I kept it that way. Thought it would be an easy fix, and it is possible - but would be an expensive alteration (quite a few buttonholes, and they would have to be handmade as they are bigger than most machines do them). Also the strom flap would be then on the wrong side...

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I don't see myself wearing women's clothing any time soon...

Though it does remind me of a trip to Brooks Brothers a friend of mine and I had a few years back. He was on a mission to get some pink shorts (he dresses on the preppy/fratty/trashy side) but he couldn't find "the right kind of pink" at any place we went. Brooks Brothers didn't have any pink shorts for men, but they had pink seersucker women's shorts. And they very nearly sold my friend on them. As a matter of fact, I think he would have bought them if they were less expensive (Brooks Brothers was among the more upscale places we visited that day).

I could understand wearing something like a women's trench coat, where the only difference is what side the buttons are on. After all, last I heard, Barbour jackets exclusively have their jackets zip on the "women's" side. But regardless of where those pink seersucker shorts fastened, they were obviously women's shorts (and no, not because of the color).

I still can't decide if I think the BB people were genuine or if they were just pulling his leg.

Oh that's really interesting actually. I've never been to Europe and in fact got my info from an Orvis salesman in the Midwest US. That's what I get, eh?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

Probably he simply meant the zipper is on the other side than it is on American jackets?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

That was pretty much his point. He said something about it being a vestige from the days when wealthy men had butlers to zip up their jackets (hence, the zipper was on the opposite side for the butler's benefit) but that sounds a little off to me.
