Good work YoungIvy - anyone who's a 17 1/2 neck and has any space in their wardrobe should grab this.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

Just found it. It's darted, you savage. Maybe a 38L, and looks a bit the worse for wear. Maybe a wash and a new cuff button would make it acceptable. Also it might be a suit jacket. Only 20 quid though.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

All points taken, old bongo player.  I might have taken it at that price twelve-odd years ago but not now.  Might be all right with jeans, I suppose.  I took a coat to a seamstress this morning and she produced acceptable cuff buttons within minutes.
Perhaps a bit on the large side for you, you matinee idol you?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I'm a 40R so it would be far too small and long. As I said, it's probably a 38L.

Rather a nice, inexpensive Troy Guild on offer - but XS.

Lovely, Rumanian-made Baggie shirt with a starting bid of just £60!  Who'll buy, who'll buy?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I've no intention of starting another Ebay thread and don't even know if anyone still bothers.  But, if you do, do you find some of their shipping charges rather excessive?  £18 to £25 to ship a shirt.  Does that seem reasonable?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I track ebay every day and have searches running, but in general I try only to buy from UK and Ireland these days.

Shipping costs in USA have gone up a lot, then there are the enhanced level of customs charges experienced.  It's often not worth it now from USA.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

Thanks, Mark.  My feelings entirely.  The item would have to be something very special indeed.  Shoes were a terrible problem - probably still are.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

eBay has generally been good for shoes to me.  Two pairs of Paraboots, Sanders, Clarks wallabee chukas from USA, Clarks apron wallabees from UK twice in last year to replace previous ones.  Those factory second shoes that are sold off, often seem to have no issue at all that I can see.  I have bought new and factory outlet physical or online is good.  Right now in its outlet Loake still has made in UK Oxblood Derbys/smooths with Danite sole for £75 in my size. I don't need any, but that's a damn good price.

Moving to Danite soles where I can instead of flat leather (no need for flats now dancing behind me) has extended the life of my shoes hugely too.  On that front, I probably now won't need any more.  Maybe just replacing mocs as they wear out.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I meant US imports.  Ouch.  Often a decent price, sometimes (in the past) acceptable shipping - but those red and white cards dropping through the letter box...  Then it got to be knitwear (even scarves), and I turned to the English sellers.  Managed then to get English-made Clarks', Grenson, others.  We've passed the Loake shop beneath the Council House twice but it seemed unfinished.  Just waiting for these Dexter loafers to turn up.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I can be tempted.  I really can.  Even now.
More vexing, of course, is the seller who won't ship outside the USA.  I once wanted a Mercer shirt so one of our esteemed American posters bought it on my behalf, I sent him some dollars and the shirt was worn at my daughter's wedding in August.
I miss Dennis The Plumber in Chicago.  Dennis, if you're looking in, I've still got all those Makers you sent over.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

Years ago, on Ebay, some transactions were full of fun.  An American - claimed to be ex-cop/FBI/CIA or something - threatened to take me to court (over there).  Another American said, when I failed to pay him as quickly as he thought he ought to be, said how wonderful it would be if British cities were blitzed again.
Closer to home, one gentleman on the Isle Of Wight threatened to pay me a visit for purposes of ultra-violence, a second e-mailed me twice a day to see if I'd posted a pair of Cheaney shoes I'd picked up in the local Oxfam.  I think he might have been one of JSs 'arrington 'n smooves customers.
PayPal was in its infancy then.

No idea but it's a beauty. I have a tasty 60s grey herringbone sack back in Blighty, but it's not as good as that one.

I don't know, but I think it's what has been referred to on here as a 'workhorse'.  Pretty sure I once had something like it.
