Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I always thought the etiquette was not to post if there were bids on an item, I've seen so much good stuff that's not in my size go un noticed and not sell. Anyway apologies if anyone was watching the shirt I posted the link to I Shan post anymore.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

If an item has no bids some of us could still be eagerly watching it. I for one always snipe in the last seconds.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

If you bid early you basically invite others to make the item more expensive for you.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I hate it when folk bid and there are 9 days left, right gets my goat.

For a long time I resisted sniping - but have had to resort to it now as missed too many items. I will only use it mind if I will not have web access or it ends when I am sleeping (sorry again 66)

I'm guilty, sometimes I bid quite early, when I think that otherwise I'll forget about it....

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

^ I'm a simple man Liam, I don't quite get your elaborate strategy.

Any early bid simply drives up the price no?
No one knows what the object of desire will sell for in the end, but I'm sure not going to give others a chance to drive up the price even further by bidding early.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I think you can normally guesstimate how much the max an item will go for is. I'm not far out usually. I never bid till the last second though. People bidding early normally only bid small amounts and even if they waited till the end of the auction the price would still get bumped up, I don't think it really makes a difference. If there's a few people interested in a nice item and willing to bid, then it will go for what it's worth or higher.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

It drives the price up by a couple pounds or euros or dollars initially yes, but it's not as if I then start bidding and bidding from then until the end of the auction. It's not that elaborate though. It's really just a bluff tactic. Maybe it works, maybe it's in my head but it certainly seems to work.

I know I've given up on an item early on if it had an automatic bid on with days to go. But I never did push that automatic bid to see how high it was. It could have been the real value of the item or it could have been a lot lower.

I always bid an amount equal to my entire past two weeks wages, and as early as possible too, regardless of the item.

I have a similar strategy, but it involves an onion and two meters of white string.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I still say you should be allowed to message other bidders and make thinly veiled threats.

i.e. "You bidding on that shirt mate, yeah? I don't think that shirt will be good for you to be honest. Nah, I think it's exactly the sort of shirt that you would wear out first day you get it and get run over by a bus. Which, reminds me I need to back to that other auction I'm watching.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-OLYMPIAN-DOUBLE-DECKER-/121063173370?pt=UK_Minibuses_Buses_Coaches&hash=item1c2fed6cfa "

^ If I was a moderator I'd move that to The Wardrobe. Now we're here - I wouldn't want it in my wardrobe... what's going on in those shoulders? They look impressively elaborate!
