Ivy With An Edge !

Nice work by Moose over on The Wardrobe forum for remembering this old one:

http://forums.filmnoirbuff.com/viewtopic.php?id=1357

- And all the POVs are still just as valid today. Maybe even more so.

March '07, this thread was.

Slowly the world is catching up with the FNB forum!

That's a great thread. Thanks for the bump. It's threads like that, that made me break my vow not to post on a message board.

I suspect that 'Terry' was when I said all that I really ever had to say.

He remains better than 'Russ' & better than the Net as it still is.

... Unless we can ever improve the Net...

Re: Ivy With An Edge !

in your opinion, what's to be learned from thom browne? all i really get is that short trousers and no socks would be nice when it's hot outside!

Nothing is to be learned from him. The only thing he is good for is shirts with traditional details in a very slim-fit. The point about knobs like Thom Browne is to take what little good you can find in their collections and adapt it to your personal conception of style. There is no brand that gives any look an "edge", that's all marketing. How the brand or garment is utilized by the individual is the key.

yeah, but the price is high: Having to live underwater in a caravan, nothing to eat but cheese, and going everywhere by bike. Blimey!

I'm still finding my way around classic IL style, and maybe 'edge' is something I shouldn't be concentrating on at my age. What does fascinate me are those little tweaks of fit and style that transform the mundane. How the same outfit of desert boots, slim flannels, white BD, tie and navy blazer can work at a 90th birthday but also at a punk concert. Avoiding the obvious choice.

^ 'Arrested development' was a great programme that the BBC tucked away late on Sunday night along with 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad'. Again, I never picked up on an Ivy character. I was too focused on the bizarre people.
