Duh !!!

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97722

Where d'ya think "Trad" comes from, boys?

The term and the construct are Japanese, used by Flusser correctly and then misinterpreted on the MBs starting on the GoPreppy site. That spawned Harris & he spawned Trad. Others then took the ball from him and gave it a good kicking.  iBall is a growing sport!

That there should be "Trad" in the US is the odd thing. It belongs in Japan. Why would America have a pastiche of it's own style when it owns the real style anyway? And why adopt (and use incorrectly) a foreign term for the style?

The answer is... The shameful ignorance in the US of its homegrown style on the MBs.

Best -

Re: Duh !!!

And in Japan only Ivy means Ivy. The term Trad also contains classic English style - In fact anything 'Traditional' at all.

That fits in with the Tradds to a 'T' tho'. Barbour, Bookster and Bentleys. And why the heck not?

Don't answer that.

Re: Duh !!!

That Japanese trad is scary. A load of middle aged Japanese gentlemen dressed as Pee Wee Herman or looking like they were extras in 'Caddyshack'.
Bizarre, how after fighting a war with the USA they now all want to be American. It would be like a club of British blokes meeting up to wear traditional Bavarian Lederhosen. Good luck to them though, but do they really have to look so shit?

Perhaps we should all get together in our kimonos for a traditional Geisha tea ceremony...

Some Japanese Ivy is fantastic. Other bits not so much.

Re: Duh !!!

I suspect the notorious Japanese love for detail can work just as much against them as for them.

I love all the different youth cults that come together in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. As Moose said the attention to detail is fantastic. Especially the rockabillies. They get the style spot on.

I have often thought of opting for the more economical and authentic route of getting my dress shirts custom-made, perhaps by a tailor like Alexander Kabbaz.

Re: Duh !!!

Here comes Russell Street again
With venom and spleen
and the Ivy thing.
He's gonna do another Trad tease.
Hey man, where'd ya get those Weejuns?
He's been hurting since he bought the gimmick
About something called Trad,
Yeah something called Trad.
Well, that's like hypnotizing preppies.

Well, he's just an Ivy guy.
Of course he's busted on the Trads before.
He's got a lust for strife.
He ought to get a life.

He's spent a million in Simons'.
With his button down,
Buy some LL Bean,
Wear a dessie boot
All on a government loan.
He's spent a million in Simons'.
Yeah, I'm through with listening to Russell talk.
No more beating my brains
No more beating my brains
With Ivy and Trads
With Ivy and Trads.
