No it's not.
What is being flogged as "The New Preppy" under the name of Ivy isn't Ivy. All it is is just another level of "Trad".
It's pastiche, it's fake, it's nothing but coddery. Sunday supplement style sycophancy married to exploitative oportunistic hackery.
Only the foolish are fooled by any of this.
Don't you think?
i like it, always have
ivy doesnt exist anymore except in old print adverts and the memories of old men
ivy now is simply a mental construct, it ceased to exist in the 1980s
when was the last time you saw an advertisement for new 'ivy' clothing that wasn't over 40 years old
where do you buy your new made in america true bleeding madras shirts
where can you buy new sack suits, besides a few brooks bros or j press - you know like your local department stores or clothing shops that cater to college students?
can't find ivy anywhere (except in fashion forums) but sure can find preppy in new adverts and local stores
While Mike certainly makes valid points about the lack of easy availability of Ivy clothing, the look is still alive and I am glad. One of the benefits of the interwebs is the ability to share information. I have learned much reading this forum and others, including sources for Ivy wear. With a few clicks of the mouse, one can purchase enough items throught retail or ebay to be fully outfitted.
I don't know whether or not Ivy will make a comeback to become widely available. Maybe it is vanity, but I do like the fact what I am wearing makes my stand out from others but not in an obnoxius way.

Ah but we preposterous preppies can sit back and have a good chuckle at the sobriety of the Trads and the seriousness of the Ivy set. We don't mind if you have a good chuckle back at us. We already do.
