Also, there's a fantastic cafe with original 50's interior with futuristic chrome flowers as ceiling lights on the Blvd St Germain just 2 blocks up from Les Deux Magots (going up the road away from the Seine). Food and drink at a fraction of the price of the 'Deux' and the 'Flore' opposite. Bitterly regret that I can't recall its name but if you walk up that side of the road along the B-S-G you can't miss it.

On the subject of Gene Kelly - he was truly one of the great loafer wearers. He also had a thing for France, and France a thing for him, as evidenced by Jacques Demy casting him in a French-speaking role in his magnificent picture from 1967 'Les Desmoiselles de Rochefort'. The list of cafes in Paris has given rise to a surge of wanderlust in young Gibson Gardens. It has set me thinking of the Holy Grail of cafes, the Caffe` Sant'Eustachio in Rome. This link is worth clicking on just for the picture on the home page which makes me want to be there now :

Re Paris. Is OLD ENGLAND still good? I remember it as rather wonderful on previous Ivy focused trips (pre-parenthood days).

Bought some lovely shirts and silk rep ties there in the past. Bonus is that 'Cafe Pause' is just around the corner. A nice place but maybe a little too hip for its own good. Had to brush past the rear of French actress Beatrice Dalle to get to a table there once. Worth the Eurostar fare on its own!
