Wearing the classic cardi

Alex has got me onto cardies.

What do you do?  Open or buttoned up?  If buttoned do you leave any buttons undone.

Do you think it OK to remove the cardi if it warms up a bit or do you (as I do) stick with it?

We seem to think alike once more, John. I just leave the bottom button undone and stick with it like I would with a sportsjacket really. Also pretty chuffed with the fitted cotton cardie I bought during the sales as it happens. Practically lived in it during september ( weekends ).....

Re: Wearing the classic cardi

I'm a devoted fan of the cardigan. Wearing a black light weight woolen button through one today over a white OCBD. Quite fitted with only the bottom button left undone. A rare outing today for an old Gieves & Hawkes covert coat gives the cardi a bit of a waistcoat feel which I'm quite pleased with.

I bought a couple in the 1970s and 80s. One in the Burlinton Arcade. The other in Norwalk CT. The latter is Braemer made in Scotland with the luxe satin band on the underside of the buttonholes. Both Cashmere and very cashmere. The latter was bought on the big side and still fits. Burgundy cashmere. Couldn't afford to buy it today.

Re: Wearing the classic cardi

Leaving the bottom button on your cardie undone is a sexual come on for any predatory gay men. It used to be coloured hankies in your back pocket but it's been the old 'bummers button' for a while now. Just thought you should know...

Re: Wearing the classic cardi

I can never remember if it was Edward VII or his grandson that introduced the bottom-button-undone look, nor whether it is felt it was unintentional or intended at the time.  In any event neither were gay, were they?

I suppose they may still have been saying 'look at my cock' but to the ladeez......

Re: Wearing the classic cardi

You know that ol' Jeremy Hackett used to work for John Simons?

He was a Kings Road Squire Shop boy way back. That or VG.

There is a 'family tree' there that we need to work on - The customers, the guys who worked for John. Lots of links.
