The point of this place is a certain aesthetic, nothing more.
Your politics or your religion are yours alone. If you read The Wardrobe then you get my drift.
Can I have a show of hands on this?
... Pleeeese?
Your Glum Chum - Russ.
It's about "getting in touch with your sartorial chi", not with your paranoid politics... and this subforum is about "Talk Ivy", not Talk KKK"...
so yes, of course!
Oh, I don't know. One of the glories of free speech is that you find out who the nutters are right quick.
Wholeheartedly agree. No politics, no religion. They have no place here IMHO. Extremely divisive and a complete distraction. If , and it’s a big if, a particular politician or religious leader is worth talking about on purely sartorial terms then let’s do it - if not, let's ignore them. That's my 2 pence worth.

"A certain aesthetic" is what it's all about. It plays a bigger part in my life than religion and politics combined.
This thing of us allows people to be fanatical in a harmless way, and a very civil one - to care for one's appearance is an act of politeness. Chicks dig it. Well, some.
Nazism had a certain aesthetic, and so too did John Wayne's mincing swagger, at least if you read that book I did 'The Politics of John Wayne'.
Look at the BNP in the UK currently trying to hijack Winston Churchill, the stoic Brits during the Blitz and images of Spitfire's. Fanatics will always try to hijack good taste and style, look at the NF and mod/skinhead/suedeheads.
I suppose we should see it as a compliment that the extreme are trying to hijack our style - as Old Bull Lee said to Sal Paradise, if the devil offers you a bargain for your soul, take it as a compliment, because not every soul is worth taking.
I commented on the politics for the first time over on the wardrobe yesterday. I felt I had to at least put the lie to a bit of falsehood our friend spycatcher was spreading. I had refrained because I find it's impossible to discuss politics without people parroting some type of typical view. It gets real boring, and I think it's fortunate very little politics (and religion) show up on Talk Ivy.
I don't know why that guy is depressing the shit out of me just now... I need to get a grip!
^Or an extra large whisky or two and put on Coltrane's version of 'Few of My Favourite Things'.
Wise words.
I just find it all a bit sad.
Uncle. What's going on mate. I've not been following this thread very well. Who is this 'Spycatcher' guy? Why does he hate you so much?
I'll give him a fuckin good hiding.
Hang on he's American... Brownshoe, Patrick hunt him down like a dog...
