Such a joy not to have checked this blog for a few months. Pages and pages of the good stuff smile

Re: Hemingway on Fitzgerald's tie

I mentioned that passage on here a while back.  When I first read that book, at 14 or 15, I was struck by how gossipy Hemingway was. There is also a rather interesting story about Fitzgerald being upset that Zelda had slighted his "manhood" and needing Hemingway to assure him that he was normal in size. I think it may have damaged my young mind to know that.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the blog in question is the best thing on the internet about the subject. I enjoyed the sta prest ad, and its use of "Ivy" in the copy. It's interesting how much myth debunking goes on when you look at the actual history.

Surely, Chinny-Chenners website is the best?

Hemmingway's The Sun Also Raises is one the best books on love ever. It all ended badly for Fitzgerald, the chamagne bubbles fizzled out with the Depression.

Re: Hemingway on Fitzgerald's tie

He does bang on about his "talent"...

And he'd be amazed at who laughs about it behind his back.

The guy's a NetWhore & very well known as such.

He has to take it from me. We got to Ivy first.

He had to ask me about who ACL was... And in return Boyer asked one of us about who Chensvold was.

Proper Ivy actually remains a rather small world, even after all the stupid fashion stuff we've been seeing lately. There is a loop & he remains out of it.

And there's a reason for that.

Just sayin'.

It's always good to get a reaction from readers. The worst thing is being bland.

In the hierarchy of reader reactions, vomiting is right near the top.

Clifford Brown is not on any mandatory list for modern day hipsters. They don't have a fucking clue who he is. I often wonder if some of these guys who bow at the altar of Miles have ever even listened to his music.

Re: Hemingway on Fitzgerald's tie

I also rate some of Charlie Hunter's stuff. 8 string guitar, he's not Grant Green, but the T.J. Kirk CD is excellent. Most of the modern players, only listen to pop music, or reggae that's why they're so shit. And Marsalis? He's that academic, he knows all the moves, all the licks but its as wooden as the dialogue in Brief Encounter. He ain't got no soul, that's why the white middle class dig him so much. All his records are instantly gratifying when you first play them, a sure sign you will only listen to the album twice.
