It was from '82.

Jeans & Rubber Mocs, 'Mission' furniture. Bill Blass.

Staged, posed, fake.

Just another form of Ralph-ism.

... And so my answer to your question is a yes.

If it had been authentic Ivy, there would have been a whiff of rebelliousness, non-conformism, young and cool and hip and angry and sophisticated, ultra-clean and yet influenced by black intellectuals perverted by drugs and culture and all that is jazz.....there would be no faked pose, it would be as authentic as the roll on BB collar circa 1959.

I don't think that this is necessary to qualify as Ivy League style... It's not necessarily a non-conformist subversive rebel style. Ivy, however, has the potential to be like that. Talk about mimikry....

Yes, but it is at its most powerful when allied with a nonchalance inbedded in bebop, cool jazz and hard bop.

Re: Is this the ultimate "preppy" photo?

So we're back to iGent-ism again? The only difference is that this aspect of it has a racial element?

Other kinds of iGents just go on about Gentlemen this & Gentleman that, the Trad element add an added level of what is 'correct': All those things that the term 'WASP' is short for.

Is that a fair summation?

^Yes, says I.

I, being a council-estate born & bred stil piss-poor Finn, couldn't care less of anything WASP. Also the metal/glam band of the same name is utter shite.

Here's a vision that is likely to strike morbid fear in the heart of any true Trad iGent:

lf the old bloke is not careful that canine could end up putting his claws through the leather couch and end up buggering it. lf the canine frequents that seat, it was probably buggered years ago.

A pyramid of all those old cash-in merchants could be fun: Ralph, Bill, Tommy... Can we count bits of Perry Ellis too?

Blass was mostly for women and I think the lifestyle shtick came into play once he became a successful brand. Ralph was all over the place but went deep into English tradition, then back to American ivy-influenced with the blonde models, the fireplaces, the horses, the boats, etc.
Tommy is nothing, a licensing machine, a totally fake entity, the Monkees of 20th century clothing.

I think.

I wanted out & you want in - That's why we meet in the middle.

There is far more to all this you know than just that sliver which is all about class.

- This stuff isn't hidden you know. It's all there for those who want to know it.

Best -

If ever there was a picture of an old ponce who organises junior cricket teams so he can fiddle with small boys. That opening photo is surely it...

First I'll be needing to fit you for a box.

Yes, yes, yes, that's fine,

Just pop your clothes off & leave them over there on that chair.

Yes, yes, yes, just pop them on top of mine...
