Well Hung?

Let's talk hangers...

Brooks used to have a lovely hanger that they'd send you when you mail ordered a jacket from them in one of their big Blue boxes.

Smooth, but unfinished, unvarnished blonde wood with dull metal fittings.

- No names, no logos, just a great hanger, very well suited to the natural shoulder (Narrow 'blades' on it).

Press never sent hangers. You ordered a jacket, you got a jacket.

Am I remembering correctly?

The ol' Brooks hanger was the best!

How do you hang?

Re: Well Hung?

And the new brooks hanger, this plastic abomination with blades like 747 wings, is terrible.  They started, I think, at the outlet stores, but now I see them at the bb retail stores as well.  346 Madison still has nice wooden hangers (and I suspect the nicer of the BB suit lines in all stores offer them).  But they're not like you remember them.  Blonde wood, but finished and with a descrete BB logo.

Love the Press hangers.  dark wood with a goden Press logo.

Re: Well Hung?

I must measure an old Brooks hanger & post it up here tomorrow -  Mine will be a 38R.

TTTB's point about the blades is key - Put a natural shoulder jacket on a fat hanger and it doesn't hang correctly. It causes the material to hang in folds & swags like the stage curtains at the Opera House.

Sloppy.

Also the angle of the blades is important too. For the natural shoulder they need to have the correct angle of 'droop'.

All of this was a science and Brooks got it right.  Once.

Re: Well Hung?

- Just looked at those hangers advertised on Mr. Chinfolds' Ivy-Sty blog - Not one is suitable for the Ivy style Natural Shoulder.

He should get them to produce an Ivy Style special edition.

Pronto.

Re: Well Hung?

This could be fun - PM Mike for the chart & then post your grade up here?

Only fellow graders will have any clue as to what the hell is going on.

- I have a No.9 'Mushroom' with a size 8 'Collar'. My 'Stem' is a 'Bentley' above two 'Maris Pipers'.

I am also closest to 'Cinnamon' on the Todgetastic Spectrum.

... You?

Re: Well Hung?

I haven't seen the chart, but like most American men, my model is not storm-welted.  That's really only desirable in the sloppiest of conditions.  Otherwise, a sleeker cut is preferred.
