Appreciation

Hello
I have been reading this forum for a while now. THANK YOU to everybody who makes this space so informative and entertaining.
Alex Roest's latest especially stands out for me along with Russell Street's pub philosopher offerings!
I have read all of the other forums and blogs and the genuine nature of this forum really stands out when compared to the rest. No other forum discusses IVY style. The rest are all twisted to suit something else.
I'm not a trad or a mod and I wouldn't want to be. I just like the real style to be found here.
I'm looking forward to adding what I can to the discussions on here.
Happy new year to you all.

Robert

Re: Appreciation

Thank you for your welcome Alex.
I'm new to the Ivy style and appreciate the lack of pretensions here. Please keep it up!

Re: Appreciation

Thank you again.
To start with I mainly have questions.
Does the forum see the connection between the Northern Soul scene and Ivy League dressing in London?
In terms of the KEEP THE FAITH spirit I can see a link even though the music and clothes may be different.
It's the English taste for the obscure which they value more than what is easily on offer.
Or I'm wrong!

Re: Appreciation

I can see what you mean as for the obscurity aspect but there's no soundtrack as such to IL dressing I think, neither is there talk of a scene. What's the attraction of the True Natural Shoulder style about for you, personally ?

Re: Appreciation

Oh - And I liked your comment about a lack of pretension. What could suit a played down style like Ivy better?

Re: Appreciation

Happy new year Russell.
I like the classicism and the adult aspect of the clothes. It feels like an evolution for me. Bennies and Freds are in my past now. I'm not 16 any more and I wouldn't want to be again.
