Will there be a giveaway of signed copies at Chens's? ;-)
Damn, if only he had written that book. Will indeed be interesting how he handles it, maybe ignore it, or hijack it in an attempt to make it his own.
Weller still claims to be a Mod, even today. As pointed out his allegiance to the American roots were always suspect, despite claiming to be sussed and even wrote an introduction to Colin MacInnes collection of journalistic outings Young England, Half English, an edition that came out in the mid-80's.
Remember going to Scarborough in 1980 at the height of the Mod revival, the place was full of heavy metal rockers and mods on scooters. It was like how later I would imagine '64 in Brighton. It would have been fantastic to have been a older with a Leica loaded with B&W to record it all.

And shame on me for not thanking Mr. Jeeves who also does so much, including shopping at J. Simons!
Glad to see he's book-marked it....any publicity is good I would have thought.
What's next? A Chens interview with JS about his Chinos and Harringtons?
He used to link the JS site, but then he dropped it when he got all grumpy. He does stuff like that.
I enjoyed his about-face on 'Take Ivy' just lately. It was overhyped & overrated, but now Gant are using it he loves it. How long now before some tacky Gant givaway promotion?
There's a cracking new photo of him in the snow on page two of the site now too. Well worth a look. He looks like a mong on a school trip.
IMVHO.

Sirs,
I’m interested in writing for Ivy Style.
I’m a graduate of Dartmouth College, with a degree in English. While in college I wrote for The Dartmouth Review, an offshoot of Bill Buckley’s National Review. I’ve since spent time in public relations drafting press releases and by-lined articles and am now a law student.
Traditional men’s clothing has always been very interesting to me for its style and elegance, and also for its ability to evoke long-ago values and traditions.
I’d appreciate any opportunity which might arise to contribute to this web log.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
Andrew

Dear Sir:
Yours is a fantastic website!
Especially a treat to navigate through all its Ivy ephemera.
I have never seen J. Press catalogs prior to 1958 so keep unearthing those wonderful remembrances of fabulous clothing past.
Cheers,
DSW

Did Eastman ever get to write?
Oh dear, Mr. Wilder. Hung up there as a trophy by Chens.
This is very interesting, not:

I know why I didn't bother to check that blog for at least about half a year...
You're right... let's get back on topic...
I think it all started with the protest against the Vietnam war...
Suddenly, that Ivy League look was "just square" again... Did you read "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test"? Black Shiny FBI shoes...
Regarding the Mod Revival, I think it's just because it wasn't very authentic in the beginning... It was just an offshoot of the Punk scene, and there were revivals and pastiches of about all the "pre hippie" youth culture looks at that time...
In the 80s, the ones who were more serious about it, probably often drifted off to a more Swinging Sixties look, psychedelia etc.... and they were often looking for the "typical 60s era" looks and not for the timeless classics... I've been guilty of some serious fashion crimes, too...
... My bad.
Here's one for Chens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEQQFKIOfmI
... Only he can't. He's stuck. Working for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
oh dear.
Now, BACK ON TOPIC AGAIN!!!
