What the fuck?

If you can't wear chinos and look great, the chinos are not the problem. Nothing betrays by the numbers attitudes and no sense of personal style faster than "oh I would never wear <insert common clothing item>". It's like the trads with jeans, christ. If you want a uniform become a police officer.
Now linking to modcult threads apparently means that there's an "Ivy police"...
Chill out, moddy boy...
It's just that the title of the thread ("Are Chinos a No No?") is rather inane for a modforum...
Yes, it's full of ex mods over here...
and we're all way "up Russell Street's ass", right!
Christ, I didn't even make it there last month...
Hi, to be honest I don't get your obsession with Modculture and your holier than thou attitude towards it.

By the way... is being an ex Mod a little like an being an ex lepper?.. 'I've been cured, sir'
Half a dinari, for me bleedin lifestory.

Horses for courses:
Modculture won't buy 'Baggy' & AAAT won't buy 'Slim'.
Ivy still carries on.
... And...
Nobody's nose is up my arse.
I know.
I'd notice.
Now, if I was to wang my nose up a few arses then people would know it...

It would be like giving Bagpus one up the harris!
(I imagine)
It's that man with the good looking avatar again!
Have you ordered your copy of OPH II yet?
A lesser man might take offence at your comment, but not me. And anyway you're a late-to-the-party Trad product so all I can do is to love you. Now go and buy something Ivy to keep the old Tradition going!
Best,
jj
Any man who doesn't wear chinos regularly is subhuman scum. No excuses, no exceptions.
Eventually we'll all end up flicking through the new 'Preppy' book. I intend signing my review copy for an 'Ivy-Style' give-away fest...
Ahhhhh - The Navy Blazer! I must pull one out for tomorrow in honour of you, Boatie. What did you do for? The Blazer has just resurfaced on the Modculture site along with the Chino as an item that the chaps over there have problems with.
- All interesting stuff.
Things have to say 'Mod' to be 'Mod' & they have to say 'Trad' to be 'Trad'...
One of the things I like about the Ivy option is the freedom to choose.
Gimme that big picture!
Best,
Here's a bit of fun:
Chinos & Sta-Prest are both lovely Ivy items, both with long histories, and they're both as Kosher Ivy as can be...
However !
Chinos are a problem for Mods & Sta-Prest are a problem for Trads.
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Maybe the genius thing is to give any item a Mod or a Trad aspect?
Looking at my wardrobe I could take a Herringbone Natural Shoulder jacket and a BD and then add Levis & Dessies for a Mod look or Chinos and Sebagos for a Trad look.
Same person, same haircut & shave, still Ivy, but one seems to say Mod & one seems to say Trad.
So what's it all about, Alex?

From an old post....Someone who was there back in the day describing a 'baggy look'.......
A quote from EC's autobiography around the time he joined John Mayall:
Eric Clapton wrote:
"Another club I used to hang out was the Scene. I used to watch, and finally made friends with, a small group of guys who hung out there and who had a big influence on how I wanted to look at the time. They wore a hybrid of American Ivy League and the Italian Look, as personified by Marcello Mastroianni; one night they might be wearing sweatshirts with baggy trousers and loafers, on another maybe linen suits. They were an interesting bunch because they seemed to be miles ahead of anyone else in terms of style."
