Who is interested in a MTM or custom made Ivy League suit?
Axel and Jim know about the plan...
I know a master tailor in Germany who is sympathetic to our plan!
He will not simply copy a RTW suit or work with our sewing patterns, of course, but he will create individual patterns based on these things... For a custom suit you have to get there, and you will get three fittings, of course, including a baste fitting...
Everything is possible:
Soft, natural shoulders and a soft, natural shape all over
no darts and a straight waist
swelled edge/ lapped seams all over
3/2 lapels, rolling softly
patch and flap pockets, upper patch
half or quarter lining
2 button cuffs
etc....
you want it, he will do it!
He is not yet convinced about also producing regular RTW sizes, too, but I'm trying to convince him to do so, as well...
Oh, and please don't start sending PMs already...
I don't want a full inbox every other day!
If you're really interested, you can write it in this thread...
All I need is a number of people who are seriously interested, so I can tell him something...
Of course! I'm looking forward, too!
Sounds like a cool idea to me but I am a bit confused. Are you guys in the UK going to go to Germany 3 times for suit fittings? Is your tailor doing what is called Cut Make Trim or does he supply the fabric as well? Are the suits fully canvassed? Most of the details you name would be no big deal for any tailor; a lapped seam is simply another way of closing a seam, swelled edges are just a machine stitch along the outside edge, these are not proprietary or difficult things.
I guess my main question is: what's the secret?
I'd love to see photos of his work if anyone has one of his jackets.
You might have a hard time selling this to those of us in the US. MTM ivy suiting is not something we lack. Something like altering a lapel width, adding a patch pocket or lapping a shoulder seam is easily done at Brooks, Press, H.Freeman, even Mr. Ned I am told. Winston tailors can do me a full bespoke Ivy for 2K. RTW on the other hand.....
Also, what price ranges are we talking about?

It's not a plan made up to sell something... I don't wanna make a profit.... It's just about getting nice suits for a decent price...
I've just talked to this man and I don't know about all the details yet...
So you'd be interested if he would do something off the peg?
Oh, and it's not that secret...
Somebody quote me a price. Ballpark it. If it is under 1000 US, probably worth it.
I'm interested HBH, Germany is no problem for me. Prefer Germany to the UK actually, my creditors won't get hold of me.
Its got to be as your prescription above in post #1. Double authentic, two cuff buttons, etc.
Hmmmmmmm - Oi, Mr. Repp-Robate -
Love-ish your posts, but are you still a part of this 'scene'?
You've done Trad, Ivy, Chensvold - The journey back to Ivy may need more work than you might think.
A name once lost needs a bit of work to regain. No?
I won't say Boo to you just yet, 'cause I likes ya...
But if you want back in, then make sense of your journey?

And here's where the US (online) dropped the ball yet again -
They could have played the hardcore orthodox card... IF THEY HAD KNOWN IT.
Instead we got shit-for-brains "Trad".
Oh you "Preppy" products!

And I think that's really sound!
The best idea is probably if Axel and me get there first, we see what we get for ourselves first, and if we're happy with our suits/blazers or whatever we're going to get made, we will ask him to do some more...
I can't say right now how much it will be... It's all depending on the fabric and the details, I suppose, but it's certainly not a Savile Row price...

Yes, it's good to have BoO back as himself under his new name.
- And, now he's no longer working for Chensvold, Christian can no longer "request" that he not post here.
So I too welcome our Brother home - Bring me that fatted calf!
