There's a story behind this: http://www.ivy-style.com/thats-life.html
I'll need to pick the time to tell it with care though... Rather like I held back David Niven's real opinion of Buckley...
So many pawns in this game of chess!
... "Trad" limps on... Slowly getting there... As a father, I'm worried that any five year old could be so slow... Still...
...And all the spin-offs spin on & on...
All good, completely abstract fun.
Back to the top post... "when I’ve said all I have to say on this subject"... ?
You've said nothing yet.
How he's now going to fill space on his blog will be fun to watch.
- To work with you, CMC!
Yr. Unc.
looks like others agree with you there on the comments section.
'Diddums'. Now there's a word that is truly underused...
Well, I don't think "commercialism" or "professionalism" is the problem of the Ivy-Style blog. There is business and there is business.
Its main problem is its lack of knowledge, its lack of depth, its lack of research, its lack of soul... sometimes, though, there was a little bit of good work involved, too! Ivy in Japan, for example....
His Ads are getting more desperate & tacky now too, now he's just going all out for money & being honest about it.
Debenhams?
McDonalds?
They do wear button down shirts at McDs, right?
The layout of his site always puts me in mind of those A5 sized 'parish newsletter/booklet' type things that get posted though your letterbox. The ones where there are a few kind words from the vicar or news about the re-opening of the community centre flanked either side by box ads for Dave the plumber or the High Street kebab shop.

The LIFE image archives are a good resource. Just one of many, though, and I've tried not to be too reliant on it. That said, I think I've got a post coming up with an image taken from LIFE.
One must be very selective. A man in a early-60s three-button suit and button-down collar shirt is not necessarily "Ivy" (or even what some call "Trad"). They tend to miss that somtimes over on AAAT in that big Alden Pyle thread. And the image itself is not usually enough; it's important to me to add something of significance (for example, a little background on the person(s)) to the image.
I'm sure that this is a minor speedbump in Ivy-Style.com's fast lane to fame.

Serious point: The "Life" ban is good news for Chens as it will motivate him. No more easy posts.
And Chens is the kind who's always keen to prove himself. Endlessly.
He should see all this as a blessing.
To be sure, I snark the boy, but it's no more than the kiss of the whip on the Donkey's back as he strains his neck forwards to reach that carrot held out in front of him...
It's merely his lot in his Ivy life, and as we all know Our Lord fits the back to the burden...
Miss Chris can take it. Not like Harris who wimped out so soon...
Meh.
Its a fast lane to fame and mediocrity allright, and not to mention abuse of historical fact.
Lets not pretend, or give Chinny-Chenners values or youth and integrity where he has none. He's 40 goddammit! Well practically, and he's hustling like John Voigt in Midnight Cowboy without the manners and half decency, or John Wayne swagger.
Don't treat him like a sixth form student. He's a man, at least in age. If he was my son, I would whip his ass, and make him get a job.
As one who has always worked - I would recommend a proper job to anyone. Make your money and then lead a double life.
I really don't like slackers. The Internet is a playground. Not a place for a man to work.
