John changed my life. I was already starting to make the right choices but he made my head spin with the beauty, clarity and optimism of his vision. I'd kind of guessed that clothes were more than just clothes and that beneath the surface froth of 'mod' there was a lot of serious stuff going on. But John meshed it all together, and somehow managed to be kind and severe at the same time. He was a guru, and we were followers. I think Russ and I have had similar journeys - mine to escape the 'small town' provincialism I'd grown up in, Jim to shake off the shackles of his education and background. John Simons showed us the most glorious of escape routes.

Ivy and Jazz as a form of escapism from the dull small world sounds familiar...
J.Simons was more than a shop, more than "just clothes" - rather a window to the wide world, informed by mid-century modernism and the American tradition, but somehow beyond time and space, if that makes sense...
I'm looking forward! The new website and all the ideas mentioned are really promising!
I think it's very good news that JS wants to go online/ mailorder, but what really makes me happy is the prospect of a new shop.
