Interesting things for later, but you're avoiding the question. :-)
Hint, though: Ralph did Preppy, Ivy and even British things. Question is, how?
As is well known, Ralph turned the style into a fetish object, for worship at the alter of imagined richness that could be bought for the price of a shirt with a little polo-pony logo on it.
As Russell sheds light to, as far removed from real Ivy as sand and vaseline are one of the same.
It feels different, wearing a Ralph OCBD is different than a deadstock BB or even a modern Mercers. The vibe, the essence is not the same.

Was that shirts, or the shit came later?
Whatever, Hepcat - The money came first!

So Quay - You're an Andy Trad & not a real Traditionalist?
- I welcome you as a fellow traveller.
My focus is the Classic American Tradition. All the off-shoots are of interest to me, but I won't swap them for the real deal.
Because the real deal is that rare thing that needs to celebrated & remembered, not Ralph's sweat-shop shonk.

was it...elves?
Get on with it Quay, just make it entertaining!
Oh alright, I'll bite again...
"How did Ralph Lauren make that entire lifestyle in a few short years?"
Answer: He didn't.
Now stop being a forum-tease, Q. Make your point & be done with it
... All this foreplay - Cut to the money shot!
