The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

... increasingly has threads about Classic Traditional American style which may interest many here.

Look out for the name 'Coleman' over there, although he is not alone.

Subtracting The Tradly Lifestyle and The Curriculum Of Trad from their discussions of menswear over there was a good idea, in my opinion.

I wish them very well indeed.

Re: The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

One might say that Trad has been de-Harrised?

The new kids on the blog won't be around for long, they will soon find themselves banned over some questionable misdemeanor or not purchasing enough clobber from the endorsed AAAC artisans.

I predict the democratic revolution in Tradland will be swiftly curtailed with the usual round up of suspects and summary deportations.

I think it may stick this time. I've been over there only for a short while (2007?) and a long time lurker here. I only joined FNB recently because I found the topics/conversation/knowledge here to be a bit more erudite and wanted to join in when apropos.

Welcome, Beefeater - I wasn't sure if it was really you!

I agree - Let's all hope the Trad reformation will stick.

Best,

Jim.

Re: The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

A lot of the problem there is the apparent quality of those that remain, and the newer posters.

I.E.,  P & G seems fairly typical of those that are still there. There is a law in economics called "Gresham's Law" that tell us that bad currency drives out good currency. Seems to work like a charm every time.

A low point was reached, for me, within the last couple of days.

Patrick is one of the most respected posters that has appeared here, or elsewhere. A number of reasons, such as taste, wordsmithing ability, and a genuine good guy. He has been quite candid about his triumph over an alcohol problem. I personally have a lot more respect for one who has overcome significant obstacles, than those who have had smooth sailing. Most of us have tremendous admiration for Patrick.

Patrick recently posted a photo of himself, on AA, illustrating some point about his clothing choices.

P & G posted the comment; "looks like you need a drink". My Gawd, you can't get much lower than this! A comment from an insecure, self obsessed clown like this, is beyond the pale. His room temperature IQ doesn't seem like an excuse. Just think of this nit wit giving sermons to his flock!

Regardless of how you change the topics, input from people like this won't be worth much.

Re: The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

The Andy's Trad Forum has been a very tawdry place for a long time. The majority of contributors there are half-wits groping for approval from other half-wits. Much of the content for the last few years has been banal in the extreme.

The bizarre thing is that the Harris-inspired Founding Father thread contains much writing on the subject of Ivy that is worthwhile: some of it even revelatory. Whether it was created or prompted by trolling on a grand scale is neither here nor there to anyone except the Russells.

The predominant sense one gets when reading much of it these days is of an isolated group with an outraged sense of being under attack. The wagons feel like they're being drawn into an ever smaller circle lately and the end (mercifully) cannot be far away.

Re: The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

Yes. The Harris stuff is largely nonsense: particularly the passage where he attempts to narrow the scope of The Traditional into its bastard offspring, Trad. But that thread also gave us vivid and authentic first hand accounts of what it was like to grow up with the clothing in its natural habitat. For that I enjoyed it.

Years down the line it's become a very queer fish indeed. The average age of posters is difficult to determine but with so many questions centering around the 'what should I wear for a job interview at Burger King' genus one can assume these are quite young people now. The young have much to contribute but what they can't bring to the party is bitter experience. The stories are long gone to be replaced by a sniveling truculence, the waving around of birthrights and a bewildering lack of self-knowledge.

One wonders why you still bother tending the garden Russ. It is now too far gone and would only benefit from burning back.

All I can say at this point is that I'm tired (and that I don't know if my efforts have done anything).

Re: The Ask Andy About Clothes Trad Forum...

... Just a final point about the Harris post - Harris says hello to the forum on 14th September '04 & his post quoted above is 30th October '04 - That's how soon he really got into deep troll mode. Posing as the expert on "the J. Press-Brooks-Andover Shop crowd".

Little did he know that other eyes were watching him to take his game and play it against him.

Unless they change those new make-your-eyes-bleed colors I can't even look at the content.

All that purple prose. (Which in any other context would explain everything.)
