Impressive.  How do you consume the prickly thistle?

McLaren Vale shiraz tonight. Bob Oatley is as good a winemaker as he is sailor. Or at least, his wines are as good as his yachts are fast...

Those thistle prickles have the look of being excellent absorbers of heavy metals and pesticides.

Silver standard ale in The Antelope, Surbiton which has 10 ales on. It is a sister pub to The Sussex in Twickenham so it should be good. One of the pints was free with a voucher - which helps.

Whisky Live on Saturday.

Interesting whiskies from Teeling including a 21 year old grain whiskey and a poitin.

Also Nikka Japanese whiskies and even a Dutch whisky - millstone - sold by Milroys.

After Masque Haunt and The Old Fountain. Too much to drink in all honesty.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Our verdict on Millstone was along those lines. Nice glass but a bit strong tasting for several in one sitting.

if me wife don't stop drinking your cod liver oil.

Or maybe this is what I music I am listening to at the moment.

It was The Dubliners version. Have not heard the version to which you refer. Interesting.

^I've had that blend too, it was getting very high ratings on the whisky blogs, but I found it rather heavy and not enjoyable.

Heppie - I think its harsh and "try hard".
If I want that stuff theres bottles at half the price.
Again I wont tell the Ms.

I'm subtly hinting that a bottle of the tassie whisky Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask  would be good.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-21/sullivans-coves-world-wisky-win-for-single-malt/5336498

A Tasmanian whisky has been named best single malt at the prestigious World Whisky Awards in London.

Tasmania Distillery's Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask took out the honour, judged against more than 300 other whiskies.

It is the first time a Tasmanian distillery has won the award, which has been dominated by Scottish and Japanese distilleries.

The distillery's Patrick Maguire says the award means everything to him.

"It's probably the world's biggest award you can win for whiskies," he said.

"The World Whisky Awards are run by the Whisky Magazine out of the UK; what they do is whisky, everything they do is whisky.

Mirambeau 2010, a cabernet led Bordeaux with Dominos pizza. Nothing like pizza and red wine, the Italians are onto something.

I will finish with a 15 year old calvados from Roger Groult.
