Are the nebbishes catching on this year?
Boat shoes, I hear from more than one source, are this year's big thing. Rockport. Fucking hell!! I've been into a couple of places already that are rammed with various examples, then am told that, just a couple of years ago, Topsiders weren't shifting. Don't tell the internet preppie boys and girls, will you? What's going on? It's that rugby shirt mob again, I'm convinced of it. The minute they're into decent Sebago I'm out of it. I've seen summat in custard yellow - worn with Argyle socks. What's next, I wonder?

I believe that they were last year's 'big thing' at topman, still popular but from what I see of people my age, espridrilles (sp?) appear to be THE in summer casual footwear for people which follow the trends.
At risk of angering some on here, I quite like topsiders. I know they're outsourced, but I've been wearing a brown pair for two years now and they've held together surprisingly well. Very hard wearing. They fit nicely as casual shoes and I can't find any decent weejuns today.
I believe one of the guys (sorry can't remember names) at J Simons was a sperry fan; I remember John pointing out his pair of shoes he loved that were about a size too small!

No, no, nothing against 'em. My mate couldn't sell them, though. Another of our items the prep handbook would like to claim as its very own. They're welcome to Vineyard Vines. More blurring? RS, pronounce judgement!

I currently have a pair of Red Wing docksides which I have had for a couple of years and love. As to J Simons stocking them ,I have bought many a pair from him over the years, in fact it was the first reason I went to the shop in the early 1980s.
