Unlikely: Alfie Bass

A great favourite of mine, he just somehow fits in to the entire East End/Soho/North London Jewish scene.  As authentic as salt beef sandwiches.

Re: Unlikely: Alfie Bass

Indeed. I worked for a long time with Jewish guy from Ilford who was a dead ringer for Alfie. He did not want to retire. Unfortunately he was too old for the legislation that stopped employers retiring you at 60. He found another job. He figured he had to get up to drive 'er indoors to work anyway, and he would just get bored at home.

Anyway, I first remember Alfie from 'The Army Game' on telly. It also featured Michael Medwin, Harry Fowler(professional cockney)Norman Rossington(overweight Scouser) etc etc.
