Vegetarianism

I once posted about Ivy austerity, in the sense of neither drinking or smoking.  The vegetarian diet, it seems to me, is both clean and wholesome.  They certainly don't seem to get it in France.  In Italy, on the other hand, you can live like a prince on rice and pasta dishes.  I've tried it, twice - three times even - and have failed miserably each time.  One of my favourite meals is the vegetable biriani from the excellent Bangladeshi round the corner.  £5.50 including bhajees and there's enough for three people.  Vegetarian kosher food in the Venetian ghetto is also superb; eaten with their home-made iced tea in the company of the strictly Orthodox.
Then the carniverous side of me demands salt beef with horse radish, roasted lamb on a Sunday, sausage sandwiches from the van.
Then there's the difficulty of the 'veggie' who eats fish and chicken...

Re: Vegetarianism

I have about 3 vegetarian days a week, but in reality-I could never go 100%. One of my favourite meals is steak tartare, for goodness' sake.

The whole 'only eat fish, because they don't blink' brigade: I'm confused.

Re: Vegetarianism

Like wardrobe minimalism, vegetarianism is a nice idea that I never quite manage to pull off.

Boon : I thought you were pre-med.
Otter : What's the difference?

Re: Vegetarianism

If God had meant for us to not eat animals... He wouldn't have made them of meat...

Re: Vegetarianism

I have found that many who espouse vegetarianism secretly hanker after a bacon sandwich - foodstuff of the Gods.  Try it - next time you have a vegetarian guest in the house, fry up some bacon and monitor the impact of the aroma on those who talk such bullshit about not eating meat.  The sternest test for them is to try this at breakfast after a heavy night on red wine - and if they don't cave in, there's more for you.
