All Night Long

Anyone seen this?  Allegedly the UKs only jazz movie; based loosely upon 'Othello'; featuring Tubby Hayes and Johnny Dankworth, amongst others.  Quite a few American movies have good jazz backgrounds, e.g. 'I Want To Live': featuring Mulligan and others.

Re: All Night Long

I saw it when I was a kid, one rainy afternoon, on BBC2. Can't remember much about it - as I recall it was largely set in a jazz club, and a black American jazzman played the lead.......? I'd love to see it again.

Re: All Night Long

It's been available on DVD, Harpo.  Another, slightly different movie, was 'Espresso Bongo', which I found disappointing.  Not jazz - a Soho background.

Ah yes - Cliff's first! Supposed to be quite a good satire on the Larry Parnes period, manufactured British rock'n'roll world...... Never seen it though. Any good Soho details?

Can't remember much about it.  I think Harvey was quite good as the hustler.

Re: All Night Long

I saw Espresso Bongo many many years ago, surprisingly good considering Cliff was involved, it was long before he started injecting botox and worshipping Thatcher of course.  I'm not sure about his other films however.

He did record a track called Jesus that has an amazing breakbeat in it, bizarrely enough, 10 bars of pure funk (seriously).
