I can't help noticing that many of the American posters have slipped away, and that the UK, Germany, Holland and Finland have come to dominate. Why should this be? Looking at the older postings I find much of interest and would like to reintroduce certain of the threads. On Halrin and Duck Head, for example.
I think it's the introduction of many hopelessly parochial topics which emphasise the British youth culture legacy of thirty plus years ago. These clog up the front page then tend to die on the vine. The demographic of posters here simply doesn't justify so many of them. Either people are too young or too old for any of it to have much (if any) practical meaning.
Of course there are potentially worthwhile reminiscences of that time, but precious little has been revealed as yet. Are the threads started in an attempt to lure search engine traffic? If so it hasn't really worked in my opinion.
Of course there are links between US collegiate styles and the mods/skinheads/smooths of Britain forty years ago but to be honest when I look at the board index and see a preponderance of such topics I tend to move swiftly on. I suspect I cannot be alone in this.
Calling us "Yanks" won't help much. Other than that, too much of FNB is dedicated to complaining about other people's behavior. It's fun to read for a bit but it gets old quickly. Becomes downright boring soon after. Not so much the Talk Ivy subforum, of course, but the rest...eh.
And yes, what NSB said about certain "parochial topics."
No apologies needed for me although I certainly appreciate the gesture.
I understand that everything comes in cycles and a person's interests change as well. I appreciate your risking becoming prolix in the service of making discussions possible, but perhaps there was just too much everyday for others to focus on? I'm told the modern attention span is shrinking. Maybe ten new threads everyday is just too much for people? I don't really know.
Talk Ivy and The Wardrobe always seem very separate to me. i occasionally look at the latter (at the two on-going snarky threads mostly, to be honest), and it's always a little bit surprising to see some one from here posting there for some reason

Alex - You're too subtle for this medium!
Seriously - Crude is what works online!
"Where do I plug it in?"
"Up your arse!"
Open the can, pour out the worms!
Bless you, Mr. Quay.
Because if the Net is just all so much fakery then what else is also fake?
Well... I think we all know that the banking system was just some silly made-up thing by now...
And 'Persil Washes Whiter' is all very well, but just what does it wash whiter than?
If all we really have are questions then surely that's better than accepting all the incorrect answers on offer?
We must live with the torment that is our reality: We never will know which is the 'Traddest' shoe...
All there is is the yearning for there to be a point... Here, there & everywhere...
Oh to be free of that impulse & just to embrace the reality of the void!
