3 to 3.25 inches

It's a narrow width, but it works proportionally (for me) with ties that are slightly wider or narrower. Swelled edges only  on sportcoats/blazers and certain suit jackets, e.g. poplin, gabardine, and maybe sharkskin.

Again, these are just my preferences.
