The Clarks' desert boot is not too bad in fresh snow - another brownie point for Saigon Sally. Combat or engineer boots I will not consider, nor the Mali or anything going well up the leg like those twattish airwair things you sometimes see under 'gay interest' on Ebay. I would still like a pair of desert boots that could survive a trip across the Depression, but also something with maximum grip. I don't give a fig for what Steve McQueen did or didn't wear in 'The Great Escape', and I don't want 'workwear'. I still want to look like a college professor, not a garage mechanic. I'm already getting browned off with 'Cola' and beginning to think about 'chestnut' instead (although I would have to inspect a pair or two).
twattish airwair things?
More tellingly, why are you typing 'gay interest' into ebay?
If it gets really bad, a pair of LaCrosse Alpha Camp Mocs (not camp mocs at all of course, but glorified short wellies). They give off a distinctly agricultural vibe with a tweed jacket...
You can always leave a pair of loafers at work to slip into.
Redwings? Or are they too 'workwear'? I still hanker after a pair of Bean Boots, but will have to wait until I or an associate do a visit to the US.
Thinking the PBs will be a good alt to the dessert boot, foxing (?) being that hight should protect the suede pretty well. I have my Tricker Malton too, but leather soles in the bad stuff is best avoided I think.
Is anyone still making those fur-lined desert boots that used to be everywhere? Always used to an option.
The Sweeney Playboy-style boots are fur-lined... I think they cost around 190 Quids

I've been toying with trying the Red Wing "Beckman" boot.....not seen it in the flesh yet and am still not sure from the pics. But a smartish boot with a grippy sole.
