Ted Hawkins died in the mid 90s.  Fantastic singer, great voice.

"What do you want from the liquor store - something sour or something sweet?"

A fantastic voice indeed.

Hawkins had the ability to make tired, overly familiar covers sound new and fresh.  At his best I find him incredibly moving......

Heaven 17 were also part of Red Wedge, although they had stopped playing live sometime before.

My understanding was that Weller dropped out when he realised that politicians were the real ego driven and pouting pop stars.

Billy Bragg is an interesting character, would have us believe he is an English latter day Woody Guthrie and the voice of the people. Except his missus is an interior decorator to celebrities and stars. His own mansion can be described as chintzy and in the style of a petit bourgeoise.

^Bloody awful, you can tell he's never been in a fish and chip shop.

The album Mermaid Avenue with the Guthrie songs was pretty good.
