Far from it (e)squire, that was exquisite in every way. I admire your moniker, your logo, and the precision of your response. Benvenuto!

I just looked at the Peter Christian website and the video of "Major Hoad" in the shoe section.  He seems like a "lot of fun", Jesus......

^  Though I fear "swapping" may occur......!

If you want a good laugh, read the J. Peterman catalogue - it's hard to imagine what planet those people are on - this is the blurb for their "Bond Street Shirt":

"Walking onto London’s Bond Street, my thoughts were still on my 7-foot mime encounter in Piccadilly Square.

Until I heard this coming from three West End women, and fashion mavens, enjoying their afternoon tea and some people-watching at Sotheby’s Café.

“It’s a smart suit.”

“Yes, but that brill double Windsor knot makes it.”

“No, the striped shirt is lush, sets off that tie and the suit.”

“Is he coming in?’

(By now I was shamelessly eavesdropping at the next table.)

Made quite the impression on Bond Street no less.

Good for him."

Always makes me think of Seinfeld - "It will always be Burma to me Elaine." And then of course there's always "Perk Perkins" in the Orvis catalogue.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

I still love them: in theory.  I just wish I could get along with them better.  A softer wool is generally preferable, in order to avoid chafing and feelings of constriction.  I may end up going back to M&S lambswool.

Re: The Shetland: Why Does It Seem So Perfect?

I've decided my ideal is to own two classic shetland styles, one with saddle shoulders and an everest. I know Jamieson's have respect and are big in Japan etc but I'm not too sure. Oi Polloi's blurb has actually put me off. It seems one of the company's big achievements involves the industrialisation of the process. The ones on the Oi Polloi site do look a bit too neat. The O'Connell's shetland, the ultimate saddle shetland, looks quirky. It seems the company they currently use for their shetlands has been around for less than a decade. Their shetlands are made in a factory too (on the islands) but, as you can see, they're hand-framed. Anybody who genuinely knows their stuff (ie not me) feel free to chime in.

Try McGeorge, if you possibly can.  Ask Colin.

Another thought:

Polo neck Shetlands, definitely part of the story, but they're not for me...

I guess, Andy, you're of the same opinion.

Any brave men around here who don't mind an itchy neck?

Re: The Shetland: Why Does It Seem So Perfect?

The Jamiesons remind me of the most recent ones made by Brooks before they, at least, partially, stopped selling them.  They do, in a way, look a bit too neat, though like the Brooks and some others I have, the saddle shoulders come through.   The Press Shaggy Dogs are nice if you like the more furry, brushed, imperfect, woolly style. I have a number of those. They are nice; and very warm.  Andover Shop also makes some nice brushed ones with and without cable. I believe there is some sizing difference between Andover and Press.
